Rome

We started our journey with an eight hour plane ride. We got on the plane Friday night and arrived Saturday morning, my birthday. Our taxi picked us up at the airport and he did not speak much English. He took us through the narrow streets of Rome, almost taking out people as he drove. He skimmed a person’s backpack, for many people had to move out of the way but the man wasn't paying attention. After we dropped our belongings off at our hotel room at Trevi 95, we walked around the streets of Rome. We went window shopping and ate gelato on the Spanish Steps. We made it a point to stop at Joe Bradley’s apartment from the movie Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn. Towards the end of the night we went to Trevi Fountain were thousands of people crowded around the fountain. There was barely room to reach the steps of the fountain. The next day, my dad and I woke up early and walked a block to Trevi Fountain. About twelve other people were with us. It was amazing to get pictures of the fountain with no one else in them. We had breakfast on the roof of the hotel and then we set out for a tour of Rome. Our tour walked us through the Coliseum, Roman Forum, and the front of the Pantheon. It was the first Sunday of the month so all of the public museums were free to enter. Even with the skip-the-line-pass from our tour guide, we still had to wait in line; there were many skip-the-line-groups wanting to go into the monuments. For this reason, we were not able to go into the Pantheon as we needed to board the cruise. We took a taxi to the cruise, sunbathed by the pool, went to dinner, and called it a night.

Rome was so breathtaking. It was amazing to see architecture that’s so old and to see it still standing with modern architecture. However, I did notice that there was trash all over the ground. People just left their trash all over the place, not bothering to take care of the city. Rome is so pretty nonetheless. I wish I could have stayed there longer.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from my visit:
