"Freelance" Comprehensive Editing

For my final project for my Technical editing class, students were tasked with finding a live professional document that needed all levels of editing: copyediting (for grammar and mechanics), global editing (for organization and consistent style), and visual design. The selected live professional document is a catering menu for the Heritage Hotel — Loxely’s Catering and Special Events. I have a family friend who owns the hotel, so I was excited to create something I could showcase to friends and family. The revised document also had the opportunity of replacing the catering menu at the hotel.

The original document was lengthy and included various grammatical errors. Much of the original style was inconsistent throughout the document. The document displayed the menu for various times of the day as well as a menu item description for each food and beverage. The revised document is consistent with the branding of the catering service. The brand has a ‘Robinhood’ theme, so graphics are included to represent Sherwood Forest. Fonts were also selected to elevate the menu to appear more sophisticated and refined; something that one would expect of a hotel catering menu..
