Aix-en-Provence
We arrived at the port in Marseille around 1pm. My family chose to explore Aix-en-Provence for the day, so we got to see a bit of Marseille during the 45 minute drive there. Our tour guide lived in Aix-en-Provence and he visited the streets we walked along quite frequently. They were stores and little coffee shops lining all of the cobble stone roads. He walked with us for about 30 minutes through the streets. He explained to us what things were and how to get back to the bus, for we were going to be on our own. As we were walking, we saw a group of people dancing to loud joyous music. Our tour guide told us that it was a union strike. It was a very peaceful way to protest. There was even an elderly man who was dancing in the middle of the circle as people were cheering him on. We then went to a soap shop where they made their own soap from the local olive trees. If the block of soap had between 72%-75% of olive oil, then it would help cure acne. My family bought 3 blocks of soap on a rope. We also stopped at a lavender store and bought a few little pouches to put in our suitcases to make our clothes smell pretty. We had 20 minutes left, so we figured we would try to get a few crepes quickly. We looked up the closest crepe stand and ordered some. However it was a sit down restaurant that sold crepes; we almost left the restaurant without them. Once we got them, we ran back to the bus while eating our crepes. It was definitely worth it. Aix-en-Provence was so gorgeous and full of life. The entire environment was so welcoming.
